Location

The School will be held at the Institut d'Études Scientifiques de Cargèse. Cargèse is a pleasant village of considerable charm and historic interest located 50 km north of Ajaccio, on the west coast of Corsica (France). The Institute is located 2 km south of the village.

Travel

Participants are expected to cover their own travel expenses.

The best way to reach Cargèse is first to arrive in Ajaccio in Corsica.

On Monday, September 27 and on Friday, October 8 there will be special free buses for the participants departing from Ajaccio airport to the Institute. The schedule will be announced later. The trip takes about 1h30 to reach Cargèse.

Information about accommodation for each participant will be given upon arrival at the Institute. Don't forget to bring a pocket lamp and good shoes to walk easily in the evening between the village and the institute.

Be careful: if you organize your trip by yourself, you should book your round trip tickets as soon as possible. Flights and ferries are rapidly fully booked all year round. There is no travel agent in Cargèse, so take care of your return ticket before departure.

Ajaccio can be reached by plane from Paris, Marseille or Nice or by ferry from Marseille, Nice, Toulon, Porto Torres or Genova.

From Nice, you can board a high speed vessel which will take you to Ajaccio in 3h30 (in absence of wind !)

Local transport

Regular buses operate twice a day except Sunday between the road station of Ajaccio and Cargèse. The price is about 8 Euro (one way). The trip takes around 1 hour. The schedule is the following:

from Ajaccio bus station to Cargèse departure at 7h30 and 15h45
from Cargèse to Ajaccio bus station departure at 9h15 and 15h15

A taxi can be booked with the help of the Institute administration. The price tag is around 90 € and 120 € at night.

If you want to drive to Cargèse, follow the direction "Calvi par la côte" (or "Calvi").

At the Institute

The institute and the village are separated by a 20 min walk through a small sea side road and a steep descent. Your are advised to take some good shoes and a lamp for the walks at night.
